Celtics New Owner Thinks Joe Mazzulla Will Crush at This Aspect of His Job

While speaking with the media on Thursday, Celtics owner Bill Chisholm said that he expects Joe Mazzulla to do an outstanding job at player development.

When Mazzulla shockingly took over as the Celtics' head coach in the wake of the Ime Udoka scandal, the Celtics had a group of experienced players. The roster had a mix of experienced young players like Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum as well as veterans like Al Horford, Malcolm Brogdon, Danilo Gallinari, and Derrick White.

Some of those names have changed over the years, but the Celtics have had a mostly veteran roster under Mazzulla. That will change this season.

After Jayson Tatum suffered an Achilles injury that will keep him out for the upcoming season, the team traded away Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holliday. The Celtics also let Luke Kornet and Al Horford leave in free agency.

There are going to be a lot of minutes available for young players than usual in Boston. Very young players Armani Williams, Jordan Walsh, and Baylor Schierman will get increased minutes. Players like Payton Pritchard, Sam Hauser and Neemias Queta will try to raise the level of their play as well.

Chisholm is excited about the prospect of his coach developing the young talent on the roster, telling the media:

"I think people will really appreciate what he’s all about. When he doesn’t have the loaded team, what can he do? And I think that's going to be really interesting, and I have every confidence he's going to crush it."
