"Am I Still Handsome?": VJ Edgecombe Hilariously Checks Joel Embiid's Eyesight After Tough Collision
Nov 6, 2025
The Philadelphia 76ers have been all business at the start of the season, occupying a spot at the top of the Eastern Conference in the early goings. Every now and then, a moment of levity unfolds and the Sixers find themselves smiling amidst the intensity on the court.
VJ Edgecombe has been putting smiles on his teammates’ faces, and it’s not just because of his impressive play. During the Sixers’ Emirates Cup game against the Boston Celtics last week, Joel Embiid found out how hilarious Edgecombe can be. In one sequence, the former MVP got hit in the eye, causing the Philly rookie to become a makeshift eye doctor for a moment.
As Embiid lay on the floor while recovering his bearings, Edgecombe asked him a simple question to “test” his eyesight. The question was, “Am I still handsome?”
The former MVP nodded, and Edgecombe declared the results of his evaluation: “Okay, you good.”
Typically, NBA rookies are told to toe the line when dealing with veterans. Embiid’s appreciative pat on Edgecombe’s back is a sign that the first-year player is in good standing with the Sixers’ franchise player.
Embiid and Edgecombe were both third overall picks in their respective draft classes, but Edgecombe’s ascent to greatness is taking a different route compared to Embiid’s trajectory. Whereas the Cameroonian center missed two full seasons before debuting in the 2016-17 campaign, Edgecombe was immediately available for the Sixers after they selected him in this year’s NBA Draft.

Edgecombe, a prized recruit from Baylor, made an impact right away, scoring 34 points in the Sixers’ opening night victory over Boston. Through seven games, the 6-foot-5 guard has averaged 19.1 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 4.9 apg, and 1.6 spg. During this span, Edgecombe ranked third in scoring on the Sixers roster, edging out Embiid’s 17.8 points per outing.
For a Sixers fanbase that watched the Embiid-Paul George tandem disintegrate last season due to injuries, the stellar play of Edgecombe is a welcome sight. Things are certainly looking up for Philadelphia at this point: They have an above-.500 record, Tyrese Maxey is averaging over 30 points per game, and their homegrown top three picks are getting along nicely.
There are many, many more regular season games left to play, but as long as Edgecombe continues his “handsome” play and Embiid rises to the occasion, the Sixers should be in good shape.
