Alperen Sengun Working Hard on Three Point Shot This Offseason

Houston Rockets All-Star center Alperen Sengun is working on expanding his offensive game by developing a three point shot.

The Turkish star has spent his offseason working on his shot with coach Djordje Sijun. The coach said of their process:

"There is a lot of pressure on him to shoot more. In the NBA, the way modern basketball is played, he wants to be a center or power forward who opens up the floor. We worked from the first day to the last, and he brought the mechanics of the shot to perfection. Now we need internal stability and self-confidence to apply. Mentally, that’s the pressure. I tell him that basketball is like a cake, made of layers. And the layer he lacks is the three-point shot. In the NBA, the whole game is about speed, shooting, reaction, and reading."

Sengun was drafted by the Rockets with the 16th selection in the 2021 NBA Draft. After a slow start to his rookie season, he has developed into a better player each season. 2024-25 was not only a great season for the center on his own but also for the team, as the Rockets made the playoffs for the first time in Sengun's career.

Sengun averaged a double-double for the first time in his career last year and was named to the NBA All-Star team for the first time. The only thing really lacking in his offensive game right now is a reliable three-point shot. If he could develop into a reliable three-point shooter, the sky is the limit.
