Al Horford Talks About Teaming Up With Steph Curry For The First Time
Oct 6, 2025
Three years ago, Al Horford had to worry about Steph Curry coming off screens and launching outside shots on the grand stage of the NBA Finals. Now, Big Al will have the opportunity to set hard screens for his opponent-turned-teammate.
Speaking to reporters after joining the Golden State Warriors training camp, Horford talked about his excitement to play alongside the most prolific shooter in NBA history.
“I’m excited just to be on the floor with him,” Horford told reporters. “I don’t have to chase him around and try to contest him and all that. The fact that we’re on the same side is something that’s special for me.”
Though the 6-foot-9 center entered the league two years ahead of Curry, Horford made it clear that he is looking forward to picking the brain of the Warriors superstar.
“I’m really gonna try to take advantage and learn from him as much as I can,” Horford added. “He sees the game in a very incredible way. I’m just going to follow suit and lean on him and Draymond to show me the way.”
Aside from his upcoming tandem with Curry, Horford would also make an interesting frontcourt partner for Draymond Green, another veteran leader of the Warriors squad. The two big men bring diverse skill sets to the team: Horford with his outside shooting and rim protection, Green with his impressive playmaking and perimeter defense.

Of course, the 2025–26 Warriors roster will also be fueled by the passion of Jimmy Butler, who was traded to Golden State back in February. Now that Butler has gotten to spend an entire offseason with the team, the six-time All-Star is in a better position to accentuate his teammates’ strengths and contribute exactly what the Warriors need on both ends of the floor.
There are multiple combinations that head coach Steve Kerr can capitalize on, and for the first time ever, he’ll get to play pick-and-roll and pick-and-pop actions with Curry and the sweet-shooting Horford. Instead of having to worry about the lethal hands of the NBA’s all-time leader in three-point shots made, Horford can finally savor the feeling of winning games alongside Curry.
