WATCH: Pat Beverly Responds to WNBA Player's Back-to-Back Complaints
Aug 22, 2025
Patrick Beverly felt that WNBA star Satou Sabally took things a bit too far when she complained about her Phoenix Mercury team having to play games on consecutive nights.

The WNBA has seen a rapid increase in popularity over the past few years, and along with that has come something that is quite common in the NBA: back-to-backs. And when Sabally was asked about having to play two nights in a row, she responded:
"Terrible. It’s like they don’t care about player safety, it's like they don't care about scheduling, or whatever... At some point, there's a sports science to it. Yeah, it's honestly just like game, on game, on game, on game. So we play tomorrow. And we’re professional, and we’ll do it."
Beverly responded to the comments on social media today, saying,
"C'mon now, y'all had me. I'm rootin, I'm rootin, these ladies deserve more money, but come on, man, you have to play back-to-backs. It's part of it. Before lockout came, they had use playing back-to-backs-to-backs. Three times, you had to play three games in a row. C'mon, man, I'm all with it, but don't lose me there now."
As Beverly notes, many of these players have been playing in back-to-back games for years, especially in the high school and AAU system.
As sports leagues become more popular, like the WNBA is right now, the strain put on them becomes bigger so that the owners can make more money. Look at the NFL, where the league is constantly trying to add extra games. With more money will come more games.
