Malik Beasley Cleared In Gambling Probe, Can Sign New Deal

According to a Friday report from ESPN, Malik Beasley is no longer being investigated for gambling and is eligible to sign a free agent deal.

Malik Beasley has long been one of the more reliable bench scorers in the league. After a strong 2024-2025 season, he was set to cash in as an in-demand free agent.
That free agency period was cut short by a June revelation that the player was a target in the Eastern District of New York gambling investigation. Beasley stopped negotiating with teams as the investigation was ongoing.
He is now free to speak with teams, as Shams Charania reported that he is no longer a target. Beasley's agent Steve Haney told ESPN:
"Months after this investigation commenced, Malik remains uncharged and is not the target of this investigation. An allegation with no charge, indictment or conviction should never have the catastrophic consequence this has caused Malik. This has literally been the opposite of the presumption of innocence."
Beasley had one of his best seasons with the Pistons last season, appearing in all 18 games and starting 18 of them. He averaged 16.3 points per game with 2.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists. Most impressively, he shot 41.6% from three point range.
The small forward reportedly had a three year $42 million deal on the table from the Pistons, but that went away during the investigation. Detroit signed several other players and now many longer be interested. Beasley will also have the chance to sign with teams who may have more money to offer.
