Top 15 NBA Scorer "A Lock" To Be Traded By Deadline
Jan 12, 2026
Michael Porter Jr. is one of the best surprises of the season. MPJ is posting career numbers across the board with the Brooklyn Nets. He’s averaging 25.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. He’s currently a top-15 scorer in the NBA.
MPJ’s rise to stardom has also come with a lot of trade rumors. Marc Stein reported on those Michael Porter Jr. trade rumors.
"There is a lot of—like this weekend—John Hollinger, my good friend, former ESPN teammate, of course he's now at The Athletic, but he spent seven years in an NBA front office—you know, he reported Saturday that he—you know—a source he trusted described it as a lock that Michael Porter Jr. is going to be traded. And I just have to put my hands up and say, when I've checked on it, I'm getting—I've been getting pushback.
That the Nets—more people that I speak to than not—keep telling me the Nets would rather not trade him now, as hot as he is, to wait till the offseason, see how they do in the lottery, and then make a decision. But if John is quoting someone who told him that, you know, it's not—you know, John's not prone to throwing stuff out there. Like, that's not his—that's not his way. So for him to report that really gets my attention."

The Milwaukee Bucks and Golden State Warriors are the two teams most closely linked to having interest in Porter Jr. However, the Nets haven’t come out and said that he is definitely on the trade block. The next few days will be very important in seeing if Porter Jr.’s play is going to be used to net the Nets some picks and young players or if they want him to be a part of their future.
