The Celtics Are Having Trouble Dealing This New Addition

The Celtics are looking to trade Anfernee Simons, who they acquired this offseason, but according to reports, they are not having any luck.

Boston decided that their season would look a lot different in 2025-26 when Jayson Tatum went down with an Achilles injury in the team's contest against the New York Knicks.

The Celtics opted against signing Al Horford, who seems likely to either sign with the Golden State Warriors or to retire. Luke Kornet, an important backup, landed a big deal with the San Antonio Spurs.

Kristaps Porzingis, the final piece to the Celtics' 2024 NBA Championship, was traded away to the Atlanta Hawks. And Jrue Holliday, the elite defensive point guard, was dealt to the Portland Trail Blazers.

The biggest piece coming in return for Holliday was guard Anfernee Simons. Simons has developed into a fine scorer during his time in the NBA, but Boston reportedly feels that his salary it too high.

Grant Afseth from the Fast Break Journal reports: "Boston entered the offseason focused on shedding salary and had struggled to find a trade partner for Anfernee Simons' contract since acquiring him in the Jrue Holliday trade. Simons remains a trade candidate to monitor."

In 2022, Simons signed a four year extension with the Trail Blazers that pays him $100 million. There is no doubt that Simons can score as he's averaged over 20 points a game two out of the last three seasons. Last year he notched 19.3 points a game to go along with 4.8 assists and 2.7 rebounds.
