Report: New York Knicks Could Be Expanding Their Rotation This Year

According to The Athletic's James Edwards, new coach Mike Brown could be extending the New York Knicks rotation this year.

Tom Thibodeau did an outstanding job building the Knicks from a non-playoff team to a title contender. He was able to do so by leaning on the player he trusted. Wings Josh Hart, OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges all finished in the top-six in minutes played.

That strategy worked when it came to winning games, but critics argued that the players were burned out or injured come playoff time. Earliest this year, Bridges even revealed that he had asked his coach to stop playing the starters to much.

Things could be different under Brown. Edwards expects hin to potentially extend to a 10-man rotation. He wrote:

"I feel confident in saying Brown will, at the very least, use a nine-man rotation to begin the season. It’s possible he extends it to 10, and that may depend on who the Knicks sign with the veteran-minimum contract they have available to use. The team could still use a more traditional, veteran backup point guard."

The Knicks will bring back their entire core from last year's team: Anunoby, Bridges, Hart, Karl-Anthony Towns, Jalen Brunson, Mitchell Robinson and Miles McBride. The team also added two key free agents for the bench in Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele. The team does have one more spot to fill, likely with a veteran. There are also some promising young players like Pacome Dadiet, Tyler Kolek and Ariel Hukporti, who could work their way into the rotation.
