LeBron James: Lots of Superstars Rejected My Recruting Efforts

In a recent discussion with ESPN's Dave McMenamin, LeBron James said that several stars ignored his recruiting pitches over the years.

You would think that lots of NBA players would be interested in playing alongsideKing James. Not only is he a great player, but he's also a great passer, regularly putting his teammates in positions where they can be successful.

Championships also seem to follow the legendary player wherever he goes. The point forward has won two titles with the Miami Heat, one with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and one with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Still, he's had a tough time recruiting, especially in the early days. He told ESPN:

"A lot of people didn't want to come to Cleveland," James said. "Let me just throw that out there. I tried to recruit so many guys to come to Cleveland, and we actually had, I had a couple guys, and it just didn't work out."

James wasn't able to convince Chris Bosh, Michael Redd or Joe Johnson to come to Cleveland. Things got better when James moved to the Heat, as Miami was a much more desirable city.

LeBron was able to convince Bosh to come with him to Miami and also helped to recruit Mike Miller, Shane Battier and Ray Allen to come along.

The recruiting success has continued in Los Angeles with James helping to bring Anthony Davis over, which resulted in a championship. Luka Doncic is now there to help James out as well and it is said that the Slovenian helped bring Marcus Smart and DeAndre Ayton aboard this summer.
