Jaylen Brown Addresses Criticism He and Jayson Tatum Receive
Mar 12, 2026
Whenever a team has two nearly equal star players, there is always going to be a bit of friction. People have been trying to pit Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown against each other their entire careers. Tatum became the face of the franchise, despite being drafted a year after Brown, but some wondered if Brown was actually the better player.
In the 2024 NBA Finals, that theory was proven correct. While Brown and Tatum were essential to the Celtic’s winning it all, it was actually Brown who was honored with the Finals MVP award.
This season, Brown has once again proved himself to be one of the best players in the league. He has especially shone when he doesn’t have to play in Tatum’s shadow. Now, Tatum is back in the lineup and people are starting to try to find cracks in the relationship between Brown and Tatum once again.

Brown addressed this idea and all the noise he and Tatum hear.
“We’ve accomplished a lot. We’ve won a lot and we one of the bigger profiles in the game, and it’s the Boston Celtics. So, anytime if one of us scratch our a** like it’s going to be on the news, right? You know what I mean, So, we are aware and we’re both on the same page. We had a good talk today about what we want the most. We both, you know, talk to the team as well, which is important. So, because I feel like the team kind goes off, we’ll go off what our energy is.”
The best players in the league need to learn how to block out the noise. There is so much negative media energy around basketball players; if you can’t block it out, it can really affect a team or star. Tatum and Brown have been dealing with that their entire careers, and they are only getting better at managing it year after year.
