Forward Javonte Green Reaches an Agreement With the Detroit Pistons

Free agent guard Javonte Green has signed a new deal with the Detroit Pistons after playing last year for the New Orleans Pelicans.

ESPN's Shams Charania reported the signing on X, writing:

"Free agent forward Javonte Green is finalizing a one-year deal with the Detroit Pistons, sources tell ESPN. Green split last season in Cleveland and New Orleans and now enters his seventh NBA campaign as a defensive-minded wing."

Despite being named Virginia's Co-Player of the Year during his senior year in high school, Green took the only D1 scholarship offer he received, from Radford. After four years in school, he went undrafted and went on to play in Europe for several seasons.

Green spent time with top teams in Spain, Italy and Germany before catching the eye of the Boston Celtics, who signed him in 2019. Playing for multiple teams, Green emerged as a wing who plays excellent defense and can provide some offense though his three-point shot could be a little inconsistent.

The swingman's best season came in 2021-22 for the Chicago Bulls. He played in 65 games for Chicago, starting 45 of them. Over the course of the season he averaged 7.2 points per game with 4.2 rebounds over 25.6 minutes.

Green was also a part-time start in New Olreans last year as he appeared in 50 games with 18 starts. After the trade deadline, Green and the Pelicans agreed on a buyout. The guard would go on to sign a deal with the Cavaliers for the final 18 games of the season and six playoff games.

The long-travelled forward will now have the opportunity to win minues on a rising Piston's team.
