Former Teammate Wants DeMar DeRozan to Be Traded

There are some talented players wasting away in Sacramento. They have a roster full of veterans that could be playing meaningful basketball somewhere, but are losing games in Sacramento on a roster that is built with lots of overlapping skillsets. Think about what Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan could be doing if they weren’t competing with each other to do the exact same thing.

That’s why the Sacramento Kings are the subject of many NBA trade rumors right now. They’ve made it clear that they are willing to trade almost all of their core players, including DeRozan.

Lou Williams, one of DeRozan’s former teammates, spoke on Run it Back about what he thinks of the Sacramento Kings situation and his hopes for DeRozan.

"In Toronto, I thought my career was over... all of those guys rallied around me and extended my career seven to eight years. ... I'm looking at this as a friend. I want my friend to be moved, be with a contender, and go out the door with a smile on his face."

Williams feels the same way a lot of us do. It is hard to imagine what the last few years of DeRozan’s career would look like if he were playing on competitive teams instead of wasting away on the Chicago Bulls and Sacramento Kings.

Maybe this season will finally be the one where he gets shipped off to a winning team, and we can see what he still has left to contribute in a meaningful basketball situation.
