Ex-Teammate Says Kevin Durant Wanted Steph Curry to Win This Award

During a recent podcast appearance, former Golden State Warrior Quinn Cook said that Kevin Durant wanted to see Stephen Curry win the 2018 NBA Championship MVP.

The reason, according to Cook, was pretty obvious. Durant had won the honor the season before and thought it would be nice for it to go to his teammate. Cook said on the Player's Choice podcast:

When we were in Houston and Toyota Center's going crazy, and they just made a 9-0 run and we needed a bucket, we're going to Kevin every single time," Cook said on "The Player's Choice" podcast. And to be honest, Kevin wanted Steph to get that Finals MVP the next year so bad. That's all he was taking about all season, like I can't wait until Steph gets his Finals MVP so he can shut up everybody, the naysayers."

The former Warrior point guard continued, "But I think in Game 2 [of the Finals], that's when Steph broke the record, he had nine 3s. And then Game 3, we were struggling, Steph was struggling, and Kevin just accidentally walked into 40 [points].

At this point in their careers, neither Durant or Curry is short on NBA honors. Curry would eventually win a Finals MVP Award, taking home the honors in 2022 after Golden State beat out the Boston Celtics in 6 games.

Durant has won two titles in his career, in 2017 and 2018 with the Warriors and he was named the MVP of both series. The legendary forward will chase another title in this upcoming season with the Houston Rockets.
