Duncan Robinson Wants to See the NBA Change the Way it Charts These Shots

During a conversation on J.J. Redick and Tommy Alter's Old Man and the Three podcast, Duncan Robinson discussed something he didn't like about how stats are kept.

Robinson has been one of the better shooters in the NBA for years now, but according to the new Detroit Piston, he could have even more impressive stats if a certain shot was counted in a different way.

The Piston said to the hosts during the broadcast:

I got one thing and I think I stole this from Zach Lowe, but this is a no-brainer to me. I think that last second shots at the end of quarters, should fall under a different field goal percentage. So there's nothing more I hate than some guys will dribble out the quarter then launch a three-quarter court shot knowing that it doesn't count, but just thinking, 'I could get it off in time.'"

No one expected Robinson to become an NBA player when he began his college career at Division III Williams College. But he proved too good for the competition he faced in his first year and transfered to Michigan, becoming a standout for John Beilein's team.

Robinson went undrafted in 2018, but made his way onto the Miami Heat's roster and he was a starter by 2019. The forward has shot the ball incredibly well for his entire career and currently hold's a three-point percentage of 39.7%. The forward will move on from Miami after 7 seasons with the Heat after a sign and trade to the Detroit Pistons.
