De'Aaron Fox Inks a Major Extension With the San Antonio Spurs

Star point guard De'Aaron Fox will be staying in San Antonio for a while as he has signed a major extension with the Spurs.

The Spurs announced today that they have signed their star point guard to an extension that will pay him $229 million over four years.

San Antonio acquired Fox in a three-team deal that also involved the Sacramento Kings and Chicago Bulls. In addition to draft picks, Fox, Zach Collins, Zach LaVine, Sidy Cissoko, Kevin Huerter and Tre Jones.

Fox, a one-time All-Star with the Kings, had requested a trade and had targeted San Antonio for the destination. The Texas native not only got to return home but also gets to play with a generational superstar in Victor Wembanyama.

In his 17 games with the Spurs, Fox averaged 19.7 points per game to go along with 6.8 assists and 4.3 rebounds. There was a little bit of a dip in production from his time with the Kings as he averaged 25 points a game in Sacramento.

The Spurs are considered to be one of the true up-and-coming teams in the NBA, and not just because of Fox and Wembanyama. The team also boasts the 2025 NBA Rookie of the Year in Stephen Castle and an impressive defensive stopper in Jeremy Sochan. The team also landed the second overall pick in the draft and selected Dylan Harper from Rutgers.

After years of being at the top of the league, San Antonio hasn't had the kind of success they are accustomed to over the last few years, but it looks like they will soon change that.
