Longtime NBA Player to Move Over to Israel

Lonnie Walker IV will be leaving the NBA for Israel as he will suit up for Maccabi Tel Aviv, a prominent team in the Euro League.

Walker IV was a top-flight prospect coming out of high school and played for the Miami Hurricanes for one season before leaving for the NBA.

The explosive wing player was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs with the 18th selection in the 2018 NBA Draft and he would spend his first four seasons with the team before also playing for the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets.

Walker IV began the 2024-25 season not on an NBA roster but would later sign with the Philadelphia 76ers. The small forward spent 20 games with the team. He set a career high in points with 12.4 per game. He also set career highs for assists with 2.5 and rebounds with 3.2.

The team's general manager, Claudio Coldebello, said in a statement:

"We are extremely proud to welcome Lonnie Walker IV to our family. Bringing a talent of this caliber to Tel Aviv, a player who was drafted and tested in the NBA, is a strong and clear signal of our ambition to compete at the highest levels and excite our fans. Lonnie’s arrival is not an isolated move but the perfect fit of another valuable piece in the mosaic we are composing with vision and strategy."

The EuroLeague is one of the best professional leagues in the world and if Walker IV plays well there, he could again end up on an NBA roster.
