Anthony Davis Expresses Feelings About Mavericks Firing Nico Harrison

The Dallas Mavericks are in for some major changes. They fired Nico Harrison, their General Manager, and now all reports indicate that they are going to pivot towards rebuilding for the future rather than contending right now. That means all of their veterans could be on the trade block over the next few months.

One of those veterans is Anthony Davis. The star that Harrison chased at the expense of the entire Dallas Mavericks fan base. The player that Harrison believed gave the Mavericks a better chance at competing for a title than Luka Doncic.

Davis recently spoke about the firing of Harrison and how it surprised him.

“It was surprising more than anything. Nico’s my guy. He played a huge part in getting me here & wanting me to fulfill his vision that he saw. It was definitely tough. Me & him had a conversation. Me & (Mavs governor) Patrick (Dumont) had a conversation. It’s the business of basketball.”

Davis being shocked by Harrison’s firing is wild. Not only was Harrison the laughing stock of the league, but the Mavericks' own fan base had fully turned on him and ownership. While Davis can’t take too much blame for his part in the disaster that the Mavericks are right now, he is certainly part of it. If Davis was able to stay healthy last season… or this season… things could be different.

Instead of being on the trade block, likely to be moved for the second time in a year, Davis could be helping lead the Mavericks to a playoff spot. Unfortunately for Davis and Mavericks fans, that’s not what is going to play out. More likely is that, like Harrison, Davis will be off the Mavericks soon.
