Wolves Standout Won't Be Playing in EuroBasket Tournament

Timberwolves guard Donte DiVincenzo was set to play for Italy in this summer's EuroBasket tournament but had to withdraw due to injury.

After starring at Villanova, Donte DiVincenzo has had an impressive NBA career. He won a ring with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021, and also played in Golden State, learning from Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
The shooting guard broke out during his single season with the New York Knicks in 2023-2024, averaging 15.5 points per game and shooting 40% from three. It wasn't meant to last for DiVincenzo in New York, and he was dealt to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Karl-Anthony Towns trade.
DiVincenzo went back the bench for the Wolves and helped the team reach this year's Western Conference Finals, where they fell to the Oklahoma City roster. His continued fine play earned him a chance to play with Team Italy during EuroBasket, as the guard is of Italian descent.
DiVincenzo announced today he won't be competing due to injury, saying in a video posted to social media:
"Unfortunately, I’m sorry I will not be able to join the national team this summer due to a physical issue that over the last few days forced me to make this difficult, difficult decision. But my goal remains the same. It remains with the journey of Italian basketball going forward, you know, World Cup and the Olympics, and for a very long time."
The player also noted that this move is out of an abundance of caution and he expects to be ready for training camp with the Timberwolves this year.
