Skal Labissiere Signs Deal to Play With Washington

Skal Labissiere, who played last season with the Sacramento Kings, has signed a deal for this season to play with the Washington Wizards.

The news was broken via NBA reporter Chris Haynes, who wrote on X:

"Free agent forward Skal Labissiere has reached an agreement with the Washington Wizards, his agent Daniel Hazan of Hazansports tells me."

There are good high school prospects. There are great high school prospects. And then there is Skal Labissiere. The center was born in Haiti and even began his high school career there before moving to the States.

The 6-foot-10 player ended up in Memphis, where he became one of the most dominant high school players in the country. During his senior season of basketball at Tennessee's Lausanne Collegiate School, Rivals had him ranked as the number one player in the country, ESPN had him at number two, and Scout had him at number one.

Labissiere chose to play his college basketball at powerhouse Kentucky. He played in 36 games for the Wildcats, starting 18 of them. His statistics weren't necessarily what one would expect from a prospect of his status. Averaging 15.8 minutes a night, he notched 6.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. Despite the pedestrian statistics, he was selected 28th overall in the 2016 Draft.

The center has never quite reached the potential analysts saw in him during his high school years, but he has carved out a nice NBA career. Last season with the Kings, Labissiere played in four games, averaging 1.3 points per game.
