Report: This Player Requested a Trade From Mavs After Doncic Trade

According to Yahoo Sports basketball reporter Kevin O'Connor, current restricted free agent Quentin Grimes asked for a trade out of Dallas following the deal that sent Luka Doncic to the Lakers.

The Luka Doncic trade came out of nowhere not only for fans of the NBA but also for the Slovenian star's Mavericks teammates. And according to O'Connor, part of the fallout was a trade request from shooting guard Quentin Grimes.

O'Connor relayed this news during his KOC show, saying that Grimes felt that Max Christie would cut into his minutes. According to the Yahoo scribe:

"I heard last year, Quentin Grimes didn’t want to be in Dallas after Max Christie got there, and that there was kind of a mini trade request. That’s one of the reasons why he ended up getting sent to the 76ers."

Whether the story is true or not, Grimes certainly was smart to request a trade to a team that would give him more minutes. He was outstanding for the Sixers.

Grimes averaged 10.2 points per game during his time in Dallas, but that number more than doubled in his 28 games with the Sixers, where he notched 21.2 points per game. He also created new career highs in assists (4.5), rebounds (5.2) and steals (1.5).

Now a free agent, Grimes showed NBA teams what he is capable of when given extended minutes. He is, however, a restricted free agent, which means the 76ers hold most the negotiating power. The guard's best move may be accepting a qualifying offer so he can be an unrestricted free agent next year.
