NBA Superstar to Serve as General Manager of his Alma Mater

NBA superstar and new member of the Portland Trail Blazers Damian Lillard announced that he will serve as the general manager of his alma mater, Weber State University.

This has been a busy offseason for the future Hall of Fame point guard. Lillard was waived and had his contract stretched by the Milwaukee Bucks, making him a free agent.

As a free agent, Lillard made the choice to return to the Portland Trail Blazers, the team that he spent the first 11 years of his career with.

Lillard will not be playing for Portland this season as he is rehabbing an Achilles injury that occured in this year's NBA playoffs. Still, the team will look for him to mentor young players like Scoot Henderson, Shaedon Sharpe, and Donovan Clingan.

Lillard said in a statement:

"Success doesn’t come overnight, especially in today’s ever-changing basketball landscape,” Lillard said via a Weber State news release. “College athletics is constantly evolving, and building a strong program requires time, trust, and commitment. I believe in what this program represents and the culture that continues to grow at Weber State. The support of our community is vital to the program’s success, and I am committed to playing a greater role in that effort. This opportunity allows me to be even more involved in shaping the future of Weber State basketball."

Lillard was only regarded as a two-star prospect out of high school and chose Weber State, a small school in Utah, in order to get out of the dangerous neighborhood he grew up in. He will now be in charge of the college's basketball program.
