Mark Cuban Calls On The NBA To Embrace Tanking, Rather Than Try To Outlaw It

Over the past few weeks, talk about tanking around the NBA has picked up immensely, with the league handing down fines to both the Washington Wizards and Utah Jazz for their overt efforts in tanking. With a loaded 2026 NBA Draft class, it's no surprise that tanking has picked up this season, with many looking to land the next generational star to lead them into the future.

However, Adam Silver has recently come out and suggested that there are a few ways to combat tanking, with the leagues front office considering all avenues. Now, former Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has joined the conversation, revealing why he believes tanking isn't the biggest issue the league are facing, and why they don't need to overhaul anything involving tanking.

In Cuban's eyes, tanking isn't the biggest issue in the NBA, but rather affordability and game presentation, all of which play a bigger role in getting fans into the arena. As a former owner, clearly he has a unique perspective on this situation, and given that we see tickets go for upwards of $700 for some regular season games, it's safe to say that Cuban may certainly be onto something here.

As of right now however, Commissioner Adam Silver has tanking firmly in his sights, and while no changes are imminent, unless he gets his mind changed, it appears as though there's going to be a drastic overhaul in the leagues approach to tanking.
