Magic Johnson Gushes Over MSU's Coen Carr [VIDEO]

During a conversation with Ian Kress of WLNS, Magic Johnson put his stamp of approval on Michigan State superstar, Coen Carr.

There is no bigger star in the history of Michigan State's basketball program than Magic Johnson. As the greatest player in the program's history and one of the greatest basketball players ever, period, his word holds an incredible amount of weight.

While talking about MSU with Kress, Johnson said of the high-flying wing player:

If he gets that 15-foot jumpshot down, he could be the best player in the nation -- or one of the top five or six guys in the nation. Because there's no better athlete in the country, first. Then, he's big. See, people don't realize he's big and strong, too. So, he has everything, and if he gets that shot down, he'll be an unstoppable force."

A quick look at Carr's stats over his first two seasons at Michigan State may not lead someone to think he's on the pathway to superstardom. A four-star recruit out of a Georgia high school, Carr only averaged 3.1 points and 1.8 rebounds in a little more than 11 minutes a game as a freshman. He did become a fan favorite thanks to his thunderous dunking ability.

Carr certainly improved in year two. His minutes went up to a touch over 20 a game, he averaged 8.1 points and 3.6 rebounds. He also shot 33% from three and raised his percentage at the free-throw line from 56.0% to 70.1%. As Johnson said, a little better shooting  could unlock a star.
