John Wall Announces His Retirement From Basketball via Social Media

In a video posted to social media, former NBA All-Star John Wall officially retired from basketball and said he is moving on to other endeavors.

Today's medical science is incredible and athletes are now able to return from injuries that were once career-ending. But surgery doesn't always return an athlete back to their prime. And Wall, who had a heel injury turn into a ruptured Achilles was never able to return to the dominant force he was early in his career.

A superstar the the University of Kentucky, Wall was drafted by the Washington Wizards with the first selection of the 2010 NBA Draft. It didnt take long for him to become a star in the NBA.

After making the All-Rookie First Team in 2011, he made his first NBA All-Star game in 2014. That would be the first of five consecutive appearances in the game. It wasn't just the offensive side of the ball where Wall was a force, it was on defense as well as he was named to the 2015 NBA All-Defense Second Team.

The Wizards, led by Wall, Bradley Beal and Marcin Gortat, were a regular postseason team as Wall played in 37 playoff games for the team.

Following his injury Wall would play for the Houston Rockets in 2020-21 and the Los Angeles Clippers in 2022-23. He has not played in the league for two seasons.

In a video he captioned, "Retired but never done. Doing it the Wall Way," he told viewers, "I gave this game everything I had."
