Former NBA Player Asks Donald Trump To Get Him Out of Prison Sentence

Long-time NBA point guard Sebastian Telfair is asking President Donald Trump to help him get out of his looming jail sentence.

Telfair, an 11-year veteran, was one of several players indicted in 2023 and accused of stealing millions of dollars from the NBA's health and welfare plan.
Initially, Telfair pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to three years of probation. He did not, however, complete his court-mandated community service and has not been ordered to report to jail for six months.
The president has been open to pardoning celebrities who are willing to praise him in the past. These pardons include Todd and Julie Chrisley, Lil Wayne and Kodak Black. Telfair is hoping to be next. He said outside the courthouse this week:
"Trump, go check in on my story and you're definitely going to want to pardon me. You'll hold me accountable and want me to continue to go do good. But I did too good to being sending anybody to jail."
As noted above, Telfair did plead guilty to the charges and would have avoided jail if he had performed his community service. The White House has yet to comment on the request from the point guard.
The cousin of Stephon Marbury, Telfair was considered a generational point guard prospect while still in high school He was set to attend Louisville, but instead chose to jump straight to the NBA. He would play for eight teams during his NBA career, mostly as a backup, but sometimes as a starter. Telfair retired following a stint in China in 2017.
