Kevin Durant Reportedly Expects To Sign Contract Extension in Houston
Sep 29, 2025
After the Phoenix Suns missed the NBA Playoffs in 2024-25, the overwhelming expectation coming into the 2025 offseason was that this team was going to blow it up. They did just that, moving on from Bradley Beal early before trading Kevin Durant, with the superstar forward landing in Houston to join the promising young core that the Rockets have built.
With a core trio of Durant, Alperen Şengün, and Amen Thompson, the sky is the limit for the Rockets this season, but beyond 2025-26, there have been question marks. Now, at Rockets media day, Durant has all but confirmed his future, revealing his intention to sign an extension in Houston at some point.
“I do see myself signing a contract extension. I can’t tell you exactly when that’ll happen, but I do see it happening.”
At 37 years of age, it's unclear just how many more years Durant has under his belt, but after scoring 27 points a night on 53% shooting a season ago, clearly, he is still able to contribute at an incredibly high level. Now, the Rockets have a go-to scorer that they can rely on in any situation, allowing them to match up much better against the elite contenders in the Western Conference.

With a young core around him, Durant is likely to sign a 2-3 year deal with the Rockets beyond 2025-26, and if they can stay healthy, this may be one of the best Rockets teams we've seen in decades.
