Steve Kerr Discusses Warriors' Disappointing Loss to Undermanned Pacers

The Golden State Warriors let an easy one slip through their fingers. The Indiana Pacers were undermanned with a ton of injured players and were coming off a back-to-back. The game Saturday was a perfect chance for the Warriors to move to 5-2.

Instead, the Warriors blew a 10+ point fourth-quarter lead and allowed the Pacers to get their surprise win. Steve Kerr discussed the loss with reporters after the game.

“Well, we know the West is loaded, and it feels like we just gave away two games that if we are locked in, focused, playing the way we know we can play, we should have won. We got to pick up those games somewhere along the way. The end of the season, the last three years it’s the same thing. One or two games. So we have to find a way to be sharper, to be better. There’s going to be some tough nights…This should not have been one of [them]...We had plenty of rest. But the execution down the stretch was awful.”

Kerr can’t hide his disappointment. This wasn’t only an early-season loss that was avoidable. It was a game that could come back to bite them at the end of the season. Kerr is totally right. The Western Conference is a bloodbath, and every loss could be the reason you miss the playoffs or end up in the Play-In Tournament.

If the Warriors were simply outplayed, it would be one thing. But when Stephen Curry and Draymond Green checked into the game with just five or so minutes left, they had a double-digit lead. If the Warriors are going to contend, their veteran leaders need to be better. That starts with finishing easy games like Saturday’s.
