Spurs Prospect Dylan Harper Said He's Ok Doing This For the Team

Dylan Harper, the second overall selection in this year's NBA Draft, said that he doesn't mind coming off the bench it that is what's best for the team.

The San Antonio Spurs are not your typical team that would be selecting as high in the lottery as they did in 2025. Despite a loaded roster that includes phenom Victor Wembenyama, star DeAaron Fox and Rookie of the Year, Stephon Castle,  the team finished in 13th place last year in a tough Western Conference.

That allowed the team to select Harper, though he knows he might not have a huge role at first. The rookie told:

"You're not going to get the keys all day. James Harden was with the Thunder and came off the bench sixth man for 3-4 years waiting for his turn so everyone gotta wait for they turn. So that's kind of how I looked at it"

Harper comes into the league with an impressive pedigree. His father, Ron Harper, was a 16-year veteran who won 5 titles with the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers. Dylan, a major prospect, chose to play his college ball at Rutgers in 2024-25. He averaged 19.4 points per game to go along with 4.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists.

The guard will begin his career on the bench as the Spurs already have Fox and Castle in their back court. The better Harper plays, the faster he'll earn minutes for the team. The fact that Harper and Castle are both 6-6 means that all 3 players could share the court at the same time.
