Ja Morant Opens Up On Losing His Joy For Basketball

The 2025/26 season hasn't been kind to the Memphis Grizzlies thus far, as the team sit at 3-5 through eight games while dealing with plenty of injury issues. The biggest story of the year however has been Ja Morant, who has seemingly been at the center of much drama for this team, even being suspended one game for breaking team conduct rules.

Now, there's been speculation that he's unhappy in Memphis, with teams around the NBA keeping a very close eye on the Grizzlies and Morant's situation moving forward. In the seven games that he has played, Morant has been fairly productive, averaging 20 points a night, but given the level of play we expect from him, it's safe to say that something is going wrong behind the scenes.

Now, Morant has addressed everything, and according to Damichael Cole, he has lost the joy he once had for the game, and when asked about if he could get it back, he responded with a simple 'we'll see'.

Given how tough the West is, this is the last thing that the Grizzlies and their fans wanted to see happen this season, and after plenty of regular season success, it appears as though Morant's time in Memphis is coming to a very rapid end.

Only time will tell how this plays out, but clearly, Morant doesn't see himself as a fit there in Memphis anymore, and while he won't come out and say that, revealing that he lost his joy for basketball is a clear sign that something big is coming.
