ESPN Reporter Doesn't Expect Angel Reese Back This Season
Aug 21, 2025
ESPN WNBA reporter Michael Voepel predicted that Angel Reese would not return to the Chicago Sky before the 2025 season is over.

The WNBA has been surging in popularity for years, and a big part of the reason why is the rivalry between stars Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese.
The rivalry between the two players began when they were in college: Reese at LSU and Clark at Iowa. Reese won the first battle when she led LSU to an NCAA Championship.
The two players have continued their feud in the WNBA, but both players are currently dealing with injuries. Reese has a back injury, and Clark has a groin injury.
Voepel, one of the most hooked-in reporters in the league thinks only one of the two will return. He wrote in a hot-take column:
"Caitlin Clark will return this season, but Angel Reese won't. Last year's top two rookies are currently sidelined -- a groin injury for Clark and a back injury for Reese -- and neither the Indiana Fever nor Chicago Sky have announced timetables for them to return. There is a chance neither comes back for 2025; they are going to be league standouts for a long time, and perhaps it's best for them to focus on healing completely for next year. That said, both undoubtedly want to return and finish this season."
As Voepel notes, these are very prominent players, and they both bring eyeballs to the sport. But they also have to avoid risking long-term injury, and their teams will likely err on the side of caution.
